Apologetics session with a non believer
I was just talking to shijie about how we handle apologetics sessions and something really interesting came up.
If you cannot convince them, you confuse them.
If you cannot confuse them you con them.
If you cannot con them, you concuss them.
Its a joke of course. But when you are in the session itself, it seems to be no joke at all cause a wrong answer or a mis guided train of thought can land you in alot of trouble. You see, in apologetics session, it is often a play of words. You have to use words, manipulate words , define words very carefully or you'll find yourself cornered in no time.
Since apologetics is the defence of the Christian faith, you'll expect to come under fire in those sessions. You may have the truth on your side, but sometimes, if we don't present God's case properly and adequately, our truth can be twisted by the opposing side to seem like the lie.
A brother told me just now, "ehh, Jie Hui, you know we are ambassadors of Christ. So we need to know how to answer these questions caused i was asked tough questions by my non believing friend and my faith was wavered." Yeah, and i totally agree. So the next time your leader asks you to go read up on some tough questions, don't just switch off and ignore him.
Do you know how to answer the following questions?
1) If God was to command in the 10 commandments do not murder, how come he would order his people, the Israelites to commit mass killings in the old testament?
2) If God was a loving God, why have he allowed people to be raped, helpless to be abused, families to be broken up by natural disaster like the tsunami or earthquakes?
3) Could all the religions lead to one God? To add to that, it means that if you are a Buddhist, you will reincarnate. If you are a Christian you will join Jesus. If you are a Taoist, you will be one of the mini Gods. (This was quite new to me)
4) Isn't it selfish for God to create us and then condemn us to hell if we don't love him?
That's all for now. will post the anwers up in the next few entries. Till then, see ya!
Regards,
