Spiritual Warfare

So many things have happened ever since i started to pray and fast for the NS Camp teaching titled State of War. I remember talking about Christians being victorious over the devil and be abit more "Zuai" or suave when we face the devil. Guess with that, the spiritual war within myself really intensified. Haa.. the devil was not going to allow me to get away with that statement easily i guess.

That are many things i thought i was ok with but apparently they came under intense sructiny. There are areas i thought i have overcomed but apparently they were still the weaklink in the armour. The devil was determined to make me eat my own words i guess. The devil knows our achilles heel and will not cease to attack those areas and tempt us in every possible way.

Today, i stand with God today and tell the devil, "Nice Try, I'm growing out of my achilles heel with God's help and His grace."

Why I chose Electrical Engineering

A lot of people have been asking me recently why i chose this major. So here are some reasons i would love to give them.

1) In Civil Engine, you deal with many forces and equations. In Chem engine you have to balance many equations. In Mech Engine, you have to make sure the motor runs. In Electrical Engine, all you deal with is "1" and "0". Its either voltage or no voltage.

2) In EE, a right is a right. A wrong is a wrong. Take another other Arts module and you'll more often than not, be stuck in a grey area when it comes to essay writing. And i don't like to be in a grey area.

3) You get some solance when the lecturers tell you that they can't do the questions in the mid terms paper.

4) When you deal with humanities, there are many considerations to take into when dealing with a topic. Sometimes its multiple dimensions. In EE, you spend the entire semester trying to learn how to deal with 2nd order (2 dimensions) equations.

5) You grow in sportsmanship. Sometimes you would just stare at the exam question, raise both your hands and tell the lecturer "like that also can eh.. you win laa.. 20 marks give you without regrets..."

6) You can afford the time to write such a senseless entry.

Please Pray for Me

I've had some crazy back to back teaching slots for the past few weeks and guess its taking a toll on my throat. Wenjiang was telling me that i need to use more of my diaphragm to project my voice. Maybe i need to go for vocal classes.

But please pray for me, think my throat is totally gone now, hurting like crazy. Hopefully after some rest, it'll be alright.

Just came back from west vision night and it was a really powerful time of vision casting. We launched the vision of West Vision 6.10. meaning that we want to see 6 faith-filled and righteous west camp communities by Jan 2010. Let's really do our best in this.

As i was walking home just now, was really physically drained but felt so fulfilled serving God in my current capacity. I touch my heart and tell God, I've given whatever i can up till this stage, what's next now?

jie hui

Thanks giving

I really want to thank God that i am still in one piece to blog about this right now.

I really should not be blogging about this but yeah, i dozed off repeatedly while driving to school today. I really really wanted to keep awake but guess the Spirit is willing but the body is weak.

There was a few times i had to jam my break cause i was rushing into the car infront of me. On other times, i had to make sharp swerve cause i was heading for the road divider. haha. its really not exaccerating,. I at the end of the ride, after i parked my car, i just zonked off in the car immediately for i think 15 minutes.

It dawned upon me that i could have gone into an accident a few times, anything could have happened. I could have banged into the car infront of me and gotten into a lot of trouble, crash into a tree or even flip my car. I thank God that none of it happened. T

There was a genuine heart of thanks giving, knowing that my father in heaven is looking after me and its probably not time yet for me to go up to meet Him. all glory goes to Him.

jie hui

Some random photos
It has been sometime since i posted photos. Here are some photos i found in my phone.
Came home early today to play with my niece. She is nine months old now and really active! Leanring how to stand and taking her baby steps. It has been such a joy to see her grow up.

This thing is called a bread board. Its where you connect your electirical circuit on. It'll be my best friend for the next few weeks. Will post up the final product when its done.

My NUS Cg members. They are really camara shy. Nicholas and MJ.

Our Gen-Acts NS wing event! It was a soccer touranment. We had 7 teams of 7 participating and many more fans turning up. It was a really good turn out. thanks Guo Feng and Ben Tay, our alumnus for coming back to help out for the event!

Tthe picture above is Guo Feng asking for his reward? And junliang giving him the "reward"

This is our NS camp camp site! It'll be our very first NS camp and the university and Poly NS group will be coming together to synergize for this camp. We thank God for that as we work together, its so far so good.

It'll be at SAF chalet changi haven. I'm so excited about what we're going to experience on the 6th to 8th of December. It has been a long and ardous journey to search for a suitable yet affordable place and God has really blessed us with this wonderful place. It is fully equipted with projector, sound system, aircon, fridge and best of all, once you step out of the place, it opens up to a great sea view.

Everyone is greared up for it and the people are really working very hard to make this camp possible. Thanks alot guys for doing this together. Really hope that it'll be a life changing camp for many of us and many of us will leave the place envisioned and the kingdom will really move forward.

Let's really do our best in this yeah!

Something is just not right...

School have been pretty draining. Mid terms is taking really long to finish.

Reversed straight into a pole yesterday. Left a huge and ugly dent in my bumper. Have to send it for repairs soon.

Down with flu and sunburn. i hate to be sick.

Have had some strained relationships recently. Hopefully will reconcile soon.

A huge load of ministry stuff left to be done. It seems unending eh.

Things seems to be jostling for my time and attention.

There seems to be time to do things but not to sense what is happening around me.

I need to pray.

Sick

Have been fighting this virus inside me for the past two days. Its the 2nd time it hit me. The first time was in Chile. At that point of time, it was tough because of the cold weather and being away from home. But God healed me.

This time round, its back to the same thing. On/off fever, uncontrolled shivering, cough and a bad back ach.

Had to drive to school today and sit through a 4 hr lecture/tutorial. Don't know how i pulled it through. Was literally staring at the clock on my phone as the time ebbed passed.

I really thank God that i'm much better now. Guess for the pass few weeks, i've been thinking about the neck breaking speed in which i'm running my life. Took up a few new portfolios and been involved in quite a few projects. Found it quite chocking at times.

Guess its God's answer to my prayer of asking Him to help me make sense of what i am juggling at the current moment. Maybe i should pray more specifically next time.

This may be God's way of slowing me down and getting me to look back to Him. He is the King, not me. For now, its back to the bed. Hopefully things will get better soon.

Jie Hui

Happenings
Happening 1:

Gou Feng went for zhi cha with us today. The food we ate at bugis was really good. We ate Asam fish head, Mongolian Pork Rib, Kai Lan and hot plate tofu. It was really really good. After we ate finish, our good friend Guo Feng whipped out $4 to pay for all the food he ate. Hahaha.. to be fair he said he had to draw money ehh.. but it was a really funny sight.

Really enjoy this nothing to do gang man. Just go out, eat, share life and enjoy ourselves... thanks dudes...

Happening 2:

Went for water baptism some of my friends today. Its really amazing. During the water baptism, there was this brother who shared testimony and sang a solo after that about God's love. It totally melted hearts man... anyway, congrats to song jun, Ah foo, Zac, Ben tay, who were all baptized today.

Happening 3:

During ministry cg today, Hanyang decided to pull stun on me and asked for affirmation from the guys from me. Thanks guys for your affirmation during ministry caregroup today. I'm really very touched by the words and support. We will continue to work hard for our vision yeah?

Games: This game descended into chaos. I shall not post those photos up.

Teaching discussion

I'm really very heartened as i watch the cg unfold today. The entire ministry really feels like a NS ministry now. At the beginning of the year, it was quite chaotic but seeing the guys enjoy themselves, laughing at their own silliness, talk about God's vision and even sit down to discuss about the move of the holy spirit in their lives, its really heartening. Guys, i really proud of how you guys adapted to the change in life stage, took the tough times in your strides, settled dwon in the ministry and took up the challenge issued to you to make a difference in the camps. Jia you!!

Happening 4:

Haven't been sleeping much recently. Was really tired. Guess what? I fell asleep in the toilet just now. Can't remember for how long, just that i felt much worse when i woke up. really need to catch some sleep now.

Tomorrow, i'll talk about the topic of how factors around us doesn't help us to change.

The God Delusion

Just started reading the book "The God Delusion" Its suppose to be a best selling atheist book. In the author, Richard Dawkins' words: "If this book works as i intend to, religious readers who open it it will be atheist when they put it down." These are big words eh.. I'll try to read this book with a open mind and see what the best of the atheists has to offer. Do pray for me that i will not be stumbled by this book. haha.. will give an account of my thoughts soon.... till then! see ya!

Updating my life
Wow... i haven't blogged for so long... heh...
ok.. shall update everyone a little about my life. Have been busy with my exams recently. NUS seems to suck the life out of people ehh.. but oh well.. thank God i'm still alive. I have one more paper left next monday and i'm done.
We are expecting Cindy back from Hope Chile next tuesday. So excited to see her back. It means we need to send someone back soon ehh.. hazz..

Don't worry, we make good friends.

Will post more about her home coming soon after she comes back :)
The youth ministry hosted our friends from Hope PJ last weekend. As the ministry in Singapore grow bigger, we will soon see the Singapore youth ministry play the role of the thai church had been performing for the adults side. We'll see internationals coming to singapore to observe the template of growth, the spirit of the youth ministry and of course see for themselves the possibility of a youth ministry.
As for the Ns ministry, we've seen an average of one person committing himself to God per week and all of them had been staying and we're glad to see their lifes changed. We are in the midst of a 3 week praying and fasting season so do keep us in prayer as well. That a generation of male leaders and world changers will be built up.
Will update soon!!

Driving on the roads of Singapore

Have been driving around quite alot recently. My car seems to be poorly equipted to fight against the perils of driving on the roads of Singapore. After i graduate, i'll love to add the following to my car to make it a Singapore driver's car.

1) The first thing i'll add will definately be the backflash. Have you ever wondered why only the back car has the ability to irritate the eyes of the driver in front, when it may not his fault at all. With this back flash, there will no problem showing your irritation to the one behind you.

2) The next i'll invent is the car plate changer. The car plate changer is designed to detect any speed camaras directed at it and it will change its plate number to the one belonging to the last car which irritated you. With this, you'll kill two birds with one stone.

3) The third thing i'll build is the ERP jammer. Do you know there are a total of 62 ERP gantries in Singapore? I found myself paying 5 bucks to travel on CTE at 20km/hr on a Monday morning. With this ERP jammer, the drivers around me are so going to love me and escort me all the way through CTE.

4) The final thing i'll build in is the car park warden eater. Those $30 summon givers sometimes just deserve to be eaten up and stored in your boot forever. I'm sure you'll need a big big boot at the rate the Singapore government is employing these wardens.

5) I'm sure this car will sell but i'm not sure if i'll paste my "Jesus is alive" sticker at the back of this car.

Regards,

Jie Hui

Guard Duty

Recently there has been a big hoo haa about a guy named dave running away from his camp with his gun and went shopping instead. It sparked off a 20 hr manhunt for him. After that incident, there has been a typical knee jerk reaction from the army

Now, let me suggest my humble opinion on how well we can avoid another dave-a-mania.

1) Deploy guards to guard agasint those on guard duty. This added protection will prevent people like dave from running away. But again, who is going to guard against those newly deployed guards?

2) Maybe we should have a buddy system where the newly deployed guards and the actual guards are kept accountable for one another. But then again, what was dave's buddy doing on that night?

3) It was reported that those guys didn't do their rounds around the camp. I mean, who does? haha.. Just ask those on duty, if they actually really do prowl all the rounds especially when they are old birds le. Maybe we should put one off pass at every checkpoint. With this, you may see people doing extra rounds. We'll then have the safest camps in the world. They can even train for their IPPT.

4) The news report showed the photo of Mandai hill camp's guard room being caged up. Oops, i mean grilled up. Why not we jst lock those people with guns in DB? Then we won't have people running away. haa.. at this rate, the whole SAF will be in DB, Heh.

5) Let's see, if that is not fisible, why not we issue toy SAR 21 guns to the guards instead? No one will know the difference anyway. They look the same.

6) They don't have so many toy SAR21 guns ehh.. hmm.. Why not we just cancel guard duty?? haha.. the NSFs who read this will love me man. Who in the world will want to get into those camps when everyone is trying to get out.

Jie Hui

Fear
After 2 chapters of woodworm and screwtape, we'll rest today yeah? haha.. As some of you already know, i have just started school in NUS. yeah. Still trying to find my feet in there.
Jasmine from youth said this, " NUS seems to be able to suck every spirituality out of you." In the first two weeks of school, i found myself being anxious about my studies. About not being able to catch up in class. About not being able to mix in to the community. Cox i don't exactly know alot of people in NUS u know. Partly because i missed all the camps as i was away in South America. But thanks to old friends like Qi, Jelvin and Aileen and some people i met in NUS, they have made things much better. Hope people like Jasmine, Guan and Bowen had helped too. :)
I want to do well in school. I know what i am there for. I want to develop myself into someone who is capable of influencing the masses. I want to develop into someone who not only life for myself but for many others as well.
To tell the truth, i don't think i'll struggle to find a stable job. I don't think i'll struggle to find someone who'll marry me (hopefully and prayerfully), to start a family, attend sunday service, have kids and just be a normal tithing christian. Please don't mistaken me here, i'm not saying these things are bad. But i'm saying that if i am just like that, i think God will say... "haii" And the same goes out to those guys out there who are graduating soon or are thinking about your future. Don't just be contented with the norm.
God had placed us in such a strategic position, given us the comfort of Singapore and the access to resources. We will be held accountable to whatever is given to us yeah. And to those who are given more, more is expected of you.
I'm not saying everyone should go for the high rungs of society. I'm saying that if you are @ a stage where you are just mantaining a stable life, earning lots of money, maybe we should go beyond that. There is a cap to which how much coffins can cost.
Anyway, for those who really want to carry money to heaven, give me your money first, i'll write you a cheque and throw it into your coffin.
I am excited of what is coming up. A few of the NS ministry people are going off to study in UK and USA. Its exciting times as we send these people out. I once told Shirls this: "If the NS ministry only build guys who are contented with having a normal life, we have failed the church."
The world, here we come!!!

Jie Hui

My Wife

I had dinner with my parents today. We were just chatting and a very interesting conversation came up.

Dad: Boy ahh, you are going to start university tomorrow.

Me: Yeah.

Dad: You know next time after you step into the society and have a stable career already, you may want to start a family.

Me: hmm...

Dad: Next time when you find a wife, you can find whoever you like but make sure she knows how to cook, can do house work, etc etc.

Mom: Like that, noboby will ever want your daughters you know?

Hahaa... I was wondering how come he is more concerned about my future wife then me. hahaa...

Let me see the requirements he laid down.

1) Can cook
2) Can do house work

Hmmm... Why not marry a maid? hahaa...

But the sweet thing is, the more he describe the kind of wife i should get, the more it sounds like my mom. Oh well.... :)

It hit me recently that a lot of guys my age tries to impress girls when they are young. I guess it is in the genes. So they do all sorts of things to prove themsevles worthy to be prince charming. It is also good for the ego when you know girls are falling all over for you. However, if you observe those married guys, if they are faithful, one of the things they are most afraid of is to impress the opposite gender other then their wife. It creates an uneasy feeling in the couple.

I came to a conclusion that:

In my life time, no matter which stage of life i am in, there is only going to be one lady i'll ever need and ever want to impress. That is my wife-to-be or my wife.

Wild Nights Out
Haa.. Don't worry, i didn't party my night away but it was a amazing night anyway. haa.. I went to visit the NTU care group together with Stanley, so that can help in the transition of Stanley to the NTU group. The CL was Weilong!! hahaa.. my ex-shepherd. Yeah. Haven't attended a caregroup for quite sometime le, so it was good i think to go for a university caregroup esp since i am matriculating the next day!! We talked about our expectations for the new sem on the roof top of esplanade. They gave the new comers gifts and it was a really sweet gesture.

After the caregroup, stanley took me on his bike and went for a wild ride round town and the marina area. HAHA.. it was so cool... Driving down ECP at 100km/h and riding a bike down at the same speed is like so different. Never sat in a bike in Singapore before this. It so cool yeah. If got chance next time, i'm sure to go learn and get a bike.

As Stanley move over to the NTU group, the NS ministry is glad to send out another strong and biblical man to their next stage of life. It has been amazing because i also handled personally Stanley's transfer into the NS group and now i'm sending him off. So it has been a full circle yeah. I really enjoy talking to him and i know he will stay strong in the NTU group. Glad to know that he is in safe hands under Weilong.

One day catch up for coffee k, Stanley?

Old GrandMother

Today i was visiting a caregroup in Serangoon. Was walking towards the central when i saw a old grandmother carrying many bags of stuff in her hands. She was struggling to walk never mind carry all the heavy stuff on her hands.

I wanted to walk away cox i was sort of a in a hurry. But i felt the Holy Spirit prompt me the verse,

42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' 44"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'
45"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

~ Matthew 25:44-46 ~

So yeah.. went to help her but that was not the main thing.

As i was walking with her, observed that the bags contained alot of food. So i asked her if it was dinner. She said yes and started sharing about her children. Her daughter is an engineer and her son a sign on army regular. They both stay with her and she was carrying the food home for them.

I was very puzzled how come her children would let such an old lady who have trouble walking to even go down to buy food for them. Who would have the heart to do so. Oh well, maybe i don't understand the whole situation.

My big sis is married already and is not living with us anymore. My er jie prob getting married soon. Soon, i'll be the only one with my parents. What if my mom was to be the one struggling up the stairs one day and i'm somewhere in another part of the world.

It hit me again that this is again going to be one big hurdle i need to cross if i am to really go.

I was talking to a sheep today about releasing him for another ministry. It happened so fast ehh.. But as i left that meeting, it sank in that i would really miss him if he were to go. hahaa.. Enjoyed his presence alot. all the supper and all the laughters and sleep over. He has became such a pillar in my life that well...

But i guess if we need to go to push fwd the kingdom more, we'll just have to do it. yeah...

Jie Hui
